First Aid at Work

It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. This Level 3 first aid at work course meets the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
The end result upon completing this course will be highly trained personal with the confidence to deal with emergency situations in a prompt, safe and effective way.

Course Duration

This course runs over 18 hours spread over at least 3 days of face-to-face training or a blended learning option is available which would involve 2 days face-to-face training and 6 hours e-learning. 

Syllabus

A range of subjects are covered in:
  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Eye injuries
  • Fractures and spinal injuries
  • Choking
  • Control of bleeding
  • Chest injuries
  • Diabetes
  • Heart attacks
  • Shock (including Anaphylaxis)
  • Asthma
  • Head injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Sprains and strains
  • Stroke
  • Burns
  • Epilepsy
  • Resuscitation
  • Bandaging

Assessment

Summative practical assessment is on-going by the instructor each day, along with a open response workbook that will be completed throughout the course. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those that need assistance with reading or writing but a good level of English speaking and writing will be required when attending this course.

Certification

This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew the qualification, learners will need to sit the First Aid at Work renewal course. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period, the learners attend annual refresher courses.
